Owing to illness this site will close when the registration lapses. Thanks to all for their contributions; it has been good renewing acquaintances over the past eleven years.

I wish each one of you every success in the future.

Robert Leggat

This site has been set up by an Old Westminsterian in order to provide a means whereby other Old Ws. could renew acquaintances, and the guest-book is providing the opportunity for many to do just that. It has been great hearing from former students all over the world, and I do hope that you will support this site and keep in touch with other Old Ws.

I was at Westminster the first year it moved to Oxford in 1959, and can just see in the picture (right) the window of S7, which was my pad for one year.

That was the last year that men only were studying at Westminster! The following year ladies were admitted at North Hinksey. Later students might be amused to learn that this was quite controversial at the time; it was even discussed quite heatedly at a Students' Union meeting. However the Principal, Trevor Hughes, hearing about this, asked us to greet the ladies with open arms - which is precisely what many of us did! From time to time I have attended reunions, and followed with interest the developments there.

I valued my time at Westminster, and was delighted when one of my daughters also went there, gaining her degree in 1998. Putting up this web-site has been one small way of expressing my appreciation for what the College stands for. chapel.jpg (9922 bytes)I was once asked for the college song; here it is! Did you know it dates back to the 1880s? However, I have not added the college "yell" because it made me cringe even when I was there!

It will be common knowledge that in April 2000 the College was taken over by Oxford Brookes University. Though it has to be said that this issue was handled in a most insensitive and, frankly, underhand manner, it remains up to us now to support the students and staff who remain, and to do what one can to ensure that the best of Westminster College is retained in the new structure.

It's always great to hear from current and former students. Do please write, and do please pop a message in the guestbook!

Best wishes
